CIIN restructures curriculum amid COVID-19 pandemic

The President, Chartered Institute of Insurance of Nigeria, Mr. Eddie Efekoha, has announced the restructuring of the institute’s curriculum.

He made the announcement during the presentation of the course books meant for the foundation stage of the new CIIN curriculum at the institute’s office in Lagos, according to a statement.

Efekoha said, “The entire world has been dragged to its knees by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and life may not return to the same way as we know it for the foreseeable future.

“I cannot say the institute had the foresight of this but in line with its primary duty of catering for the development of the manpower development needs of the insurance industry, the institute has restructured its curriculum in line with international best standards.”

He explained that about eight books were to be used for the foundation stage of the institute’s exams.

“I am proud to say that these books represent a body of work that will greatly stimulate the intellect of the modern-day professional,” he said.

The CIIN president said the books for the other stages would also be released to stakeholders.

He said the total number of revised books to be released by the institute were 27, adding that considerable work had been put into ensuring that the idea came into fruition.

Efekoha said the publications were a product of the renewed relationship with the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom.

He said after a careful review of CII’s course books in relation to their validity to the application of the modern-day insurance practices, the institute thought it appropriate to adopt its course books for the use of professionals in Nigeria.

“Subsequently necessary approvals were obtained from our sister institute and, most importantly, these books have gone through the painstaking process of domestication in order for them to be relevant to the Nigerian insurance industry,” he said.
